How come the acceleration of that cart can be given by 9.8*sin(theta) where theta is the angle of inclination?

Can it be explain using trig via a right triangle? If so how come? If a right triangle where former wouldn't g=9.8 be considered the opposite and the acceleration of the cart be the hypotenuse making it sin(theta)= g/a ?
